The YMCA Youth Baseball and Softball Complex’s groundbreaking event was held on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023.
The community came together to celebrate and commemorate this historic moment. The ceremony began with Technical Sergeant Michael Beck leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an opening prayer from YMCA of Northwest Louisiana CEO Gary Lash. Melissa Phillips and Nancy Ponder performed the National Anthem, and Dr. Tyler Lash offered a prayer for the children.Mayor Tom Arceneaux and Commissioner John Atkins were present at the event. Brandon Marrs, the President of Shreveport Little League, delivered a speech. Melissa Phillips and Nancy Ponder teamed up again to perform a rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” The ceremony concluded with a spectacular fireworks display, marking a memorable start to the construction of the YMCA Youth Baseball and Softball Complex.
