It is that time of year again to bundle up with your loved ones and experience the magic that is Wonderland of Lights in Marshall, TX. The 34th annual Holiday festival will officially begin on Wednesday, November 27th, at 6:00 pm with the Wonderland of Lights Opening Lighting Ceremony in front of the historic Harrison County Courthouse. The ceremony will feature performances from a children’s choir and the hometown Mavettes, Marshall’s hometown rendition of the New York Rockettes. Santa Claus will be in attendance to flip the magical switch that will illuminate millions of white lights on the Harrison County Courthouse and along North Washington Avenue. After the lighting concludes, patrons are invited to ride the carousel, ice skate outside, explore the area by train, trolley, carriage, and explore Santa’s Village. Live performances will be nightly. You can find the complete line up at www.WonderlandofLights.com.
Don’t feel like walking? There are several options to help you see the lights. Sacred Spur Carriage Company will have three different carriages to choose from as you trot through downtown on a magical horse-drawn adventure. The Limo Carriage provides a cozy place to snuggle up and the restored Hotel Surrey is great for families and large groups. Rides last 15 minutes. The family favorite Wagonette will also return this year for those with larger groups looking for a shorter ride, a trip around the Courthouse. The Wonderland Express will be returning to give attendees a ride through the downtown district in trackless trains. The tours last about 8 – 10 minutes and guests will be entertained with performances at Telegraph Park.
The covered outdoor skating rink will continue to be a main attraction as people of all ages skate around the rink with the lit Courthouse in the background. As people skate around the rink they will find lights not only overhead but also lights frozen down below in the ice too. Where else can you ice skate in Texas at any given time of the year? Next to the rink, children and adults of all ages can experience Santa’s Workshop, and making its debut is Santa’s Village. The Village is a collection of tiny houses that feature hands-on activities. The Village is comprised of a train depot, Mrs. Claus’ favorite bakery, and even one -on- one time with Santa in his living room. Get your cameras ready!
Downtown Marshall will be a magical Winter Wonderland you and loved ones are sure never to forget. There are activities all around town and fun photo opportunities everywhere you look, including 4 themed wooden vignettes with holes for you to put your face in. Shops will be open, laughter will be heard, and music will ring through the nightly air. Don’t forget about the Wassail Walk on Saturday, November 30th, in downtown and, of course, the Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 7th at 6:00 pm. Wonderland of Lights is certain to bring you and yours lots of holiday cheer! For a complete list of events, times, and ticket information, please visit www.WonderlandofLights.com.
