Twelfth Night is celebrated as the beginning of our Mardi Gras Season. Captain of Captains Brian Landry introduced each Krewe’s Royal Court. Landry also gave us an informative History lesson about Twelfth Night. The origin of Twelfth Night comes from the period of time between Christmas and the Epiphany which totals twelve days. These days are meant to be a celebration with the Twelfth Night after Christmas as being a night of entertainment. The Epiphany commemorates the coming of the Kings to see Baby Jesus. This also explains why we have “King” cake at Mardi Gras and why there is usually a plastic “Baby” inside the cake for one to find.
