A new chapter in Southern living is being written at Whispering Path. Here, in the admired Southern Trace community, homebuilder Parrish Ramsey isn’t just constructing houses—she’s crafting legacies, one beautifully crafted home at a time.

“There’s something different about building a home in this neighborhood,” Parrish’s voice carrying the quiet confidence of someone who’s transformed from a nurse to one of Shreveport’s most discerning builders. “It’s not just about the structure—it’s about creating spaces where memories take root and flourish.”

A Tale of Transformation

Parrish’s journey from hospital corridors to construction sites might raise eyebrows at first glance, but watching her move through one of her homes— pointing out subtle design choices with the same precision she once used to check vital signs—you quickly understand the connection. After returning to Shreveport in 2003 with her newborn daughter Carmen, she found herself drawn to the art of home building, a passion that had quietly taken root while watching her parents craft their own homes over the years.

“I built my first house in 2005 in the Wisteria area of Southern Trace,” Parrish recalls, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. “My parents, Joanne and Johnson Ramsey, had built a couple of their personal homes and helped get me started. Sometimes I think that nursing background gives me a different perspective—it’s all about attention to detail and caring for people’s needs.”

That nursing background, it turns out, was the perfect foundation for her future in construction. The parallels between patient care and home building are striking—both requiring meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and most importantly, a deep understanding of human needs. “In nursing, you learn to listen—really listen—to what people are telling you,” Parrish explains. “You develop an intuition for what they need, even when they might not be able to articulate it themselves. Building homes isn’t so different.”

This holistic approach is evident in every project she undertakes. Just as a nurse must consider how various treatments will interact with each other, Parrish evaluates how different elements of a home will work together— from the flow of spaces to the interplay of materials and light. “My medical background taught me to think systematically,” she says. “Everything in a home is connected, just like everything in the human body is connected. When one element is out of balance, it affects the whole system.”

Architectural Poetry

This blend of medical precision and human-centered care is nowhere more evident than in Parrish’s latest masterpiece at 10913 Whispering Path. Walking through the front door feels like being welcomed into a story that’s both timeless and thoroughly modern. When asked about her approach to this project, she pauses thoughtfully before responding, her eyes taking in the space around her. “Every home tells a story,” she says. “The question is how compelling do you want that story to be?” The answer, in this case, is very compelling indeed.

The home rises from its lot like a verse of architectural poetry—each line deliberately crafted, each detail thoughtfully considered. The façade, a masterful composition of refined brick and sophisticated detailing, manages to feel both timeless and thoroughly modern, a feat that’s harder to achieve than it looks.

Inside, the home unfolds with the grace of a wellchoreographed dance. The open-concept living spaces flow seamlessly into one another, while strategically placed windows capture views of the manicured landscape beyond. The kitchen, a symphony of quartzite countertops and custom cabinetry, strikes that elusive balance between showpiece and sanctuary. A professional-grade gas range anchors the space, while a generously sized island, topped with pristine quartzite, provides both a gathering spot and additional prep space.

“I believe in building kitchens that make you want to linger,” Parrish explains. “We chose these quartzite countertops not just for their beauty, but for their durability. The custom cabinetry isn’t just about storage—it’s about creating a space that works for how people really live. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just enjoying your morning coffee, these spaces should feel like they’re embracing you.”

Details That Whisper

Throughout the home, Parrish’s attention to detail reveals itself in quiet ways. The master suite, more retreat than bedroom, offers a sanctuary from the world outside. The en-suite bathroom, with its freestanding soaking tub and oversized walk-in shower, features dual vanities topped with designer fixtures that catch the light like jewelry. The custom-designed closet space offers a level of organization that brings peace to the morning routine. “I think about how people will move through these spaces at different times of day,” she explains. “The morning rush to get ready for work, the evening wind-down routine—every moment should feel considered and cared for.”

In the secondary bedrooms, each with its own well-appointed bathroom, the same level of thoughtful design continues. “Every room should feel special,” Parrish notes. “Even spaces that guests might never see are finished to the same exacting standards.”

The wide-plank white oak flooring flows throughout the home, creating a seamless transition between spaces. Architectural lighting fixtures serve as both functional elements and works of art, while the carefully chosen neutral palette provides a sophisticated backdrop for any design style.

Another detail that sets Parrish’s homes apart isn’t just their aesthetic appeal— it’s her commitment to the local community. In an age of global supply chains, she has deliberately chosen to work with local vendors and subcontractors.

“I’m big on using local vendors and subcontractors,” she emphasizes. “A lot of them I’ve worked with since the beginning. When you build these relationships, there’s a level of trust and quality that you just can’t get otherwise. My right-hand man, Cippy, manages our projects on site day-to-day. He’s a jack of all trades, and honestly, I couldn’t do this without him.”

A Community Within a Community

10913 Whispering Path sits within Southern Trace like a jewel in a carefully crafted setting. The community, with its championship golf course and pedestrian-friendly streets, represents a return to the principles of traditional neighborhood design. Here, front porches aren’t just architectural features—they’re invitations to connection.

The home’s outdoor spaces reflect this community-minded approach. A covered patio, complete with a built-in grill and fireplace, blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living. It’s easy to imagine lazy Sunday afternoons stretching into evening gatherings, the space alive with the sound of laughter and clinking glasses.

The neighborhood itself seems to exhale a collective sigh of contentment as evening approaches. Residents stroll past on their after-dinner walks, offering warm waves to neighbors relaxing on their front porches. This is exactly the kind of community connection Parrish envisioned when she chose this location.

A Legacy in the Making

As the sun sets over Southern Trace, casting long shadows across Whispering Path, it’s clear that what Parrish has created here is more than just another luxury home. It’s a testament to the power of transformation— both personal and architectural. From her early days as a nurse to her current role as one of Shreveport’s premier builders, Parrish has maintained the same dedication to care and attention to detail that marked her first career.

“When you’ve built and remodeled homes in areas from South Shreveport to Cross Lake over to North Bossier, you learn that every home has its own personality,” she reflects. “At the end of the day, building homes is about improving people’s lives. Whether it’s through thoughtful design, quality materials, or spaces that bring people together, every choice we make is in service of that goal.”

For those fortunate enough to call Whispering Path home, those choices have resulted in a residence that doesn’t just shelter, it elevates. In a world of mass production and quick turnarounds, Parrish has created something increasingly rare—a home with a soul, built by local hands, designed for modern living, and rooted in Southern tradition.

It’s more than a house—it’s a masterclass in Southern sophistication, where legacy meets luxury, and every detail tells a story of excellence, craftsmanship, and the transformative power of coming home.

French Sophistication Meets Southern Grace

Tucked gracefully within Bossier City’s exclusive and esteemed Oak Alley subdivision lies a home that seems plucked from the pages of a European fairytale. The neighborhood’s tree-lined streets and well-maintained surroundings reflect a commitment to excellence and a shared appreciation for refined living.

Near the back of the neighborhood, on the streets of Belle Maison, is an exquisite architectural marvel, channeling the romantic allure of a French château while seamlessly accommodating the demands of modern living. With its stately facade, meticulously curated interiors, and resort-style amenities, this residence is more than a home—it’s an invitation to live artfully.

Approaching Belle Maison is like arriving at a private estate in the French countryside. The exterior is a harmonious medley of old-world sophistication and contemporary polish. Stone accents, a steeply pitched roofline, and intricate wrought iron details transport you to the Loire Valley, while the pristine landscaping—featuring manicured hedges, a fountain, and towering crepe myrtles—grounds the home firmly in Southern charm.

According to realtor’s Debbie Gibson and Opha Phillips, the homeowners wanted to create something timeless—a home that feels like it’s always belonged, but with all the conveniences of today. Timeless, indeed. This is the kind of house that turns heads, sparks conversations, and sets the gold standard for what luxury can look like in northwest Louisiana.

The foyer’s soaring ceilings and dramatic staircase set the tone—this is a space where grandeur and intimacy coexist. Wide-plank oak floors stretch out underfoot, their soft patina a nod to the craftsmanship of yesteryear. Above, antique chandeliers cast a warm, inviting glow.
The heart of the home is the open concept living and dining area, an entertainer’s dream that balances scale and comfort. Anchored by a limestone fireplace—imported from France, naturally—the space invites gatherings both grand and intimate. The dining room, framed by arched doorways and accentuated with custom millwork, is where memories are destined to be made.
But it’s the kitchen that truly steals the show. Designed with both the chef and aesthete in mind, it boasts bespoke cabinetry, marble countertops, and a suite of professional-grade appliances.
The additional bedrooms, each with ensuite baths, are havens of tranquility. Subtle, sophisticated design elements—think coffered ceilings and custom drapery—elevate these spaces beyond the ordinary. And for guests? A separate wing ensures privacy while maintaining the home’s cohesive elegance.

Grab that paintbrush and get to it. Rich cool tones, such as peacock, royal blue, or emerald green, are colors that create a stunning contrast when combined with quartzite or marble options. Look no further than the Thaxton home in Pierremont (August 2023) for inspiration. You have two unique, distinct elements, but when combined, they make a grand statement—where high gloss and lacquer finishes further emphasize this jewel-like kitchen space.

If your bathroom floors or walls need a facelift in 2024, try going the retro and creative route with shapes such as squares, rectangles, hexagons, rhomboids, and, yes, even circles. These tile shapes have made appearances for hundreds of years, and though the shapes aren’t new, the variety of tile sizes available has given them a refresh. Opt for tiles with combos of white, gray, and black to nail that classic vintage aesthetic. Alternatively, try larger tiles paired with your cabinets, like the SB home feature from September 2023, boasting touches of metallics and iridescent glazes

The addition of water features such as inground pools, fountains, and small ponds is predicted to be one of the hottest trends in 2024. This is particularly true of features such as natural pools, which filter themselves using plants and can enhance your landscaping and your use of the yard.

Another element that’s showing up in outdoor living spaces is the outdoor fireplace. Firepits have long been a popular addition to outdoor spaces, but new outdoor fireplaces are a more permanent addition meant to make your patio feel much more like a living room than ever before. This year, try using decorative fireplace surrounds as well as unique mantels that help dress up the area and make it feel homier.

Mixing textures and fabrics feels more relevant as we head into 2024. Consider balance, movement, and direction, and whether you want the feel of the space to be soothing or energizing. If you have a long linear rug, for example, you can either intentionally carry that theme through with vertical patterns up a wall or completely break it up with a solid or more organic rounded feel to furniture and walls that stop the line. From April 2020, a midcentury modern home on Cross Lake used dark accents in small doses, such as the sitting room chairs, couch, and tufted ottoman, which perfectly contrast with the exposed brick, fireplace, and white backdrop without overwhelming it. Decorative rugs softened the look—a look is repeated for emphasis in adjacent spaces.

Or do as Mary Patrick Baucum (October 2021) did with her dining room, which perfectly blended the common threads between the objects—like color, texture, and shape. Just don’t go overboard by adding too many periods into one room. Also, say goodbye to the standard-looking light fixtures and opt for something that makes a statement instead. Gone are the days of closets being mere storage spaces. Today, they reflect personal style and organizational savvy. The transition to custom closet solutions marks a pivotal moment in home design—just as Yvonne Davlin did with her closet (September 2022). This personalized space was tailored to fit her unique lifestyle, ensuring that every inch was optimized for efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Her custom closet perfectly showcases how we think about personal space, from bespoke shelving units to intricate drawer systems. Today’s trend is leaning towards minimalistic designs that offer both elegance and functionality. Sleek lines, subtle color palettes, and innovative materials are now at the forefront of cabinet design.

Shreveport, LA. Midcentury modern is a term that’s thrown around a lot these days. But what is it really? Midcentury modern architecture is not simply anything that was designed and built in the middle of the 20th century, but, in fact, an architectural style with a defined set of principles and influences. To this day, the style continues to influence contemporary architecture in ways both big and small.

In the mid-1950s, local real estate developer Henry “Hank” Bronner began constructing a home in Shreveport’s South Highlands neighborhood. This new home was to be designed in the midcentury vernacular of the time, inspired by the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and Charles Eames. The house was for Bronner’s first wife, Louise, and their daughters. It would be a true testament to the midcentury style with sustainable and innovative design, clean lines, minimal ornamentation, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an emphasis on nature. Sixty-four years later, Mrs. “Cissie” Bonner—Hank Bronner’s second wife—decided to put the home up for sale.

For Robert May, owner of Watertight Roofing and Construction, the midcentury style seems to be a product of specific design elements. “I think it’s really the materials, the open flowing spaces, and the real sunny feel to them that draws people to the architectural style to this day.” Upon learning that the Bronner home was for sale, his curiosity peaked. Initially, May just wanted a tour of the home before it sold. And, since he wasn’t officially in the market for a new home, he figured there wouldn’t be any harm in looking, right? May simply walked up to the front door, rang the doorbell, and introduced himself to Ms. Bronner.

Upon passing through the front door, May was amazed that most of the original elements of the home were still intact. He was immediately drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows, the open floor plan, the built-in storage, the functionality, and the intentional connection to its natural surroundings. “Oh, yeah,” added May, referring to the manicured landscaping. “Seeing the backyard was a huge plus. Combine that with all the interior features; this was the house for me.” So, he bought it.

After purchasing the home, May knew from the start that any renovation would mean maintaining a careful balance between preservation and updates as he made decisions on what and how to move forward. Many details, as he would discover in the ensuing months, were hidden, disassembled, or reused elsewhere in the home. “Being in the construction business I knew where the line was and walked it successfully,” May says. “I wanted to approach everything I did very carefully.”

And carefully, he did. Aside from a few minor cosmetic changes, which mainly consisted of painting and electrical upgrades, May stayed true to the midcentury style.

Today, the 3-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home features the same footprint as when it was originally built—featuring the original open floorplan with large, custom floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the space with natural light. These windows allow a ton of light to seep into the home—providing wonderful, breathtaking views of the beautifully landscaped backyard, patio, and saltwater pool area. The living area is anchored by an offset ledge stone fireplace set against a paneled wall and built-in bookshelves, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. A corner pole light provides some whimsy, as the room is decorated in era-appropriate accent pieces and furniture.

May handpicked many of the items that make up the home which gives it an awesome retro vibe. To say he is an avid George Rodrigue fan is an understatement. His works are seen in abundance throughout the home. “I must have more Rodrigue’s than anyone in Shreveport,” admits May. Appliances, countertops, and flooring were all carefully added to help “modernize” the home which, luckily, do not diminish the midcentury appeal. One of the things that hasn’t been updated is the original lighting that illuminates the home when natural light isn’t available.

Ranging in size, the three bedrooms all have ample closet space and generously sized windows. The master bedroom has a private patio right off the sitting area, with a unique master bath with his and her spaces. It’s like having two bathrooms in one! Likewise, there are closets everywhere. In the foyer, living room, and hallways. Walk-in closets are abundant. “I bet the whole house has over 600-squre-feet of closet space,” May admits.

The landscaping in the backyard is architecturally appealing and practical. According to May, he sees the exterior patio and yard as an extension of the living room, which looks out onto the patio. And just like the interior, the design has a good flow. The main design elements for the backyard are the saltwater pool, patio with fireplace, and multiple seating areas connecting through lavish, well-kept landscaping. “The pool is 10-feet-deep,” says May. “And, because of the depth, the water stays cool all summer long.”

For May, this midcentury architectural home remains timeless. And even though it has been decades since the home was originally built, he believes it is now a perfect blend of past and present, with room to grow in the future. “Surprisingly, the house had been really well maintained for the past sixty-four years,” May says. “It is certainly my forever home—with both old memories and new ones.”

The open floorplan easily allows light to flow through the tall windows, casting light and shadow against the tranquil neutral-colored walls. “We wanted to create a serene and calm open concept design with lots of natural light,” claims Lauren. “Using as many windows as possible helped us achieve this goal.”

Engineered hardwood floors in “French Oak” invite barefoot moments. “Flooring was an important part of the design process. We wanted light wood floors that would create a flow throughout that felt calm and cohesive. There are so many ‘light-colored’ wood floor colors to choose from we had a hard time choosing. It was even more beautiful in person after first seeing it installed.”

“This project was right up my alley,” says Lauren. “I love the peacefulness of a quiet palette and the easy elegance that comes from mixing classic and contemporary styles—curating a unique assemblage of textiles, art, and furnishings—both modern and antique. There were very few rules.”

Never one to sacrifice form for function, Lauren took advantage of her designer acumen to be on-trend but traditionally rooted. “Antiques play an important role in my life, and this house is no exception,” says Lauren. “My selections aren’t richly stained, ornately carved, or extravagantly gilded. They are refined and charming, packed with character and charisma, and, to me, that sums up our home’s style.”

Shreveport, LA. “Around here, this is fairly unique,” admits business owners Frank and Jordan Thaxton of their recently renovated six-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom, midcentury modern home in the heart of Shreveport’s Eastridge neighborhood. “It’s not built in the conventional way that most houses are.”

But that distinctive look makes this home shine even more.

Admittedly, when Frank and his wife, Jordan, started looking for their “forever home” in Shreveport, they struggled to find something that had everything both were looking for. “Either the house wasn’t right, or it needed too much work, or building something from scratch wouldn’t be cost-efficient,” says Jordan. “And, honestly, we never really considered the midcentury style,” recalls Frank, “until one night Jordan found this house.”

For Jordan, it was love at first sight. The lines, the details, and the “really big windows.” To Frank, not so much. Until he saw it was on a three-acre lot. “Yes, it needed a lot of work. But show me a three-acre lot in the heart of Shreveport? You won’t find one for sale.”

The 6,973-square-foot home was originally designed in 1949 by the iconic architect Lester Haas for the Weiss Family. It is surrounded by dense, jungle-like foliage on three sides and features the clean lines and indoor-to-outdoor transitions that midcentury homes are known and loved for.

After purchasing the home, Frank and Jordan enlisted the help of local architect Jeff Spikes of iArchitecture to help transform the house into their forever home. The goal—to balance the work of the original designer with contemporary functionality. This meant a thorough overhaul of the interior and exterior of the house.

“Getting the details right is always key to any successful home design,” says Frank. “Jeff Spikes, Chad Rosen and Chad Jeane put on paper what Jordan and I had in our heads. They had some great ideas to help restore it, respect its character, and create more connections between the inside and outside of the home.”

Once Frank and Jordan knew what they wanted to do, and the plans to do it, then came the next step. Renovation.

To help make sense of the relationships between the main rooms of the house—how the scale worked in their favor and render the home more livable—the Thaxton’s opened the “heart” of the home to allow natural light in. “The living room, dining room, kitchen, and den were all cut off from one another,” Frank admits. “They were connected, technically, but there was not much sharing of space. Our primary goal was to increase connections throughout these spaces—through the interior spaces and out towards the back yard.”

Today, these two living spaces—the living room and the den—feature two different design aesthetics and are “connected” by the dining room. The living room, a more formal gathering space, features warm tones outfitted with a large custom sectional with two chairs. It’s just one of the rooms great for entertaining. The den, the family’s favorite room, is informally called the “Little Red Fireplace Room.” And, according to Frank and Jordan, the redesign of the home centered around the vintage fireplace that was installed in the late 1960s.

It is a small room with two small chairs, a couch, and our ‘little red fireplace.’ There is no television. Great conversations and family time with whoever is with us take place in that room.”

The Thaxton’s love to entertain. To suit their lifestyle, the couple decided to open part of the wall that previously separated the kitchen from the dining room. The change better connects the space to the dining room and increases the available natural light. “Now we can continue that tradition of hosting parties,” says Jordan.

Three walls were removed, and two new ones were added, along with a load-bearing beam to help “open up” the space. New, custom cabinetry, a Quartzite island, and granite perimeter countertops with a bronze brick backsplash in the kitchen reflect the home’s midcentury roots, while a commercial-grade Wolf oven and stove, as well as a Thermador refrigerator, freezer, and wine cooler offer modern convenience—especially when it comes to gathering and entertaining.

The selection of the furniture inside these spaces helps provide additional details. One of the most notable pieces is the stunning ‘cactus root’ table in the dining area. Easily sitting twelve people, it is 100 inches in diameter and weighs nearly one thousand pounds. Nearby, the ‘little red fireplace,’ coupled with the views of the backyard, perfectly balances the connection between these rooms.

When reflecting on the design and build processes of this home, one of the biggest takeaways for Frank and Jordan was how carefully the exterior space was shaped and created in relation to the interior.

“Throughout the design process, attention to design was given equally to the interior and exterior experiences,” he notes. When we purchased the property, the original back patio was only three-by-twelve feet, so we added a pool, a courtyard, and decking.

Reimagining The Classic Design

Details like the custom kitchen cabinets, a unique light pendant, and subway tile all nod to classic midcentury design while maintaining a new and fresh air. “The original home had so many midcentury design elements—some we could save, others we could not,” the Thaxtons say.

Today, the home feels both delightfully midcentury and modern. The home’s décor strikes a balance between midcentury and treasured pieces—all personal to Frank and Jordan—and perfectly complements the original design with updated sensibilities without feeling overdone. The ambiance the couple chose for the interiors was an eclectic approach, an intermingling of bold, geometric, classical, and midcentury pieces, all assorted with modern elements (as well as a touch of the 1970s). Special attention was given to blending the texture of materials to create interest. The intention was for the environment to possess a touch of low-key, sophisticated elegance through careful editing.

The color palette was also carefully considered so that it would respectfully reflect the period’s architecture.

“We referenced vintage photos to determine the original colors of the home. This returns the home to be true to its roots,” Jordan points out. “To provide a neutral background for the art collection, we chose a warm white for the walls and medium-gray porcelain floor tiles and carpet for the interior palette.”

All the floors, tile, carpet, and light fixtures came from HomeLUXE Flooring and Lighting. The product is a house that is tastefully stylish but does not shy away from making a statement. And even though it was renovated—there is a timeless quality about it.

No matter who comes inside this house, they all instantly enjoy the space.

In all, this home remodel was executed with historic preservation in mind, modernizing both the interior and exterior while celebrating the classic midcentury architecture. “There is no bad spot in this home,” Jordan says. “Every room reflects our design aesthetic, blends our personalities, and reminds us of how blessed we are to be its caretakers.”

Look inside. These contemporary design elements offer new life and a modern twist to the traditional homes in Provenance— making them anything but your mother’s house!

Shreveport. Provenance is one of South Shreveport’s most unique communities. Its idea is simple—bring the traditional neighborhood back to Shreveport.

But what exactly is a traditional neighborhood development? Also known as a TND, it is a new urbanism concept where homes, commercial spaces, parks, offices, restaurants, and other conveniences are in close proximity to provide a strong sense of community and walkability. Part of “getting” what a TND is, is understanding that the architecture of the homes is part of the quality of life in the neighborhood. Therefore, living and working in Provenance means a life less ordinary.

And though Provenance is well known for its “traditional” heritage and architecture, who doesn’t love a new contemporary home for its smart design and curb appeal.

Contemporary living adheres to a few principles that define its simple aesthetic—open-floor plans, clean lines, minimal clutter, and a neutral color palette. These elements are key to a serene and sophisticated lifestyle, and general wisdom says that when you elevate a home, you elevate your life. Today’s architects and designers continue to push the envelope and reimagine how to live by using tight angles mixed with curved surfaces, floor-to-ceiling picture windows, and innovative design. This new-construction home in Provenance is no exception.

Alison McKenzie of Medina Interiors opted to break from tradition, using a more modern approach for her latest project. “On the whole, new construction is going more contemporary,” McKenzie admits. “My client, Jason Kirk, wanted to build a home that embraced an overall fresh feel with clean modern lines yet was still warm and welcoming. Most importantly, it had to work for his family. As a mom myself, I fully understood the importance of creating spaces that everyone could enjoy.”

Why Provenance? Aside from beauty and charm, McKenzie says Jason was clear on how the neighborhood provided a better quality of life for himself and his family. “My job was to design a home for a single dad that reflected that! I opted to embrace a relaxed Louisiana vibe with a modern twist. It’s like a breath of fresh air, and a warm hug all in one. But, most importantly, I wanted to help design a home with an open layout and soaring ceilings that contribute to a comfortable living on the inside and out.”

McKenzie and her team worked alongside architect Bennett Sabatier and homebuilder Matt Jenkins, who from the start really jumped on board with the overall goal and, who the designer credits, were both equally an integral part of bringing her client’s vision to life. “We truly functioned as a team, and because of that we were able to avoid any challenges along the way,” she says. “We added character through custom built-ins, geometric tile and various custom tile patterns throughout the home—all which were layered with warm textures and a soothing color palette.”

The house’s shape fits within its setting, appearing to grow from the ground itself. That means fewer hallways and tiny, wasted rooms. Its open floor plans afford more useable space—the kitchen that opens to the den and dining areas. An abundance of glass and doors—designed to open and disappear—bring the outdoors in. Here, efficiency is key.

McKenzie reemphasized it was the teamwork that made it all happen. “I am so proud of the collaboration of everyone involved on this project. The whole team was able to create a beautiful home that not only reflected the client’s personal style, but one that he can enjoy with friends and family for many years to come.”

Step inside to see all the details.

Distinctively Detailed Entry

Taking advantage of modern performance with a traditional aesthetic, the entry creates a calming space that everyone can enjoy.

Given its first impression a visitor will have, the material and furnishings of this entryway set the stage for home’s overall tone and vibe. “When you walk through the front door, you are greeted with the warmth of the natural light streaming through large windows. We carried the white and black in from the exterior as our base and used a combination of boho accessories, natural textures, and live greens to infuse the residence with a sense of personality and whimsy but overall, the quiet monochromatic palette, clean lined furnishings and contemporary forms keep the ambiance hip and sleek.”

Mixing Metals

“When working on a kitchen, classic is key,” states McKenzie. She believes the forces of fashion and trends have begun to push back the pendulum towards neutral colors. Yes, whites and greys are popping up and appear in color forecasts and are seen in many fashion and furniture production runs. “If you want a space that’s truly bespoke and unique to your family while having the wide appeal and resale value—it’s in those base colors, the whites and the greys, that you should start your journey.”

“Furthermore,” she adds, “mixing metals is the wave of the new traditional. In this kitchen, there are antique pewter faucets and fittings, stainless steel appliances, and brushed brass hardware.” She commented on how her client loves to cook so she chose top of the line Thermador appliances, custom-designed crisp white custom cabinetry, and quartz countertops for durability with light wood flooring for a natural warm feel. “We wanted an open, clean yet functional kitchen design.”

A Colorful Palette

The dining room is not the place to skimp on style, and the balance of light plays a huge role throughout this space. “From the size of the tabletop—which adds just enough natural interest without being overpowering—to the size and scale of the light fixture; it was all important since we were working with tall ceilings and windows, I wanted to make sure it felt balanced.”

The round dining table suits Jason’s easy, everyday style. It’s inviting and puts everyone on equal footing since there is no hierarchy at either head of the table. The simple skirted chairs, along with the artwork, steal the show and provide warmth to this modern, trendy space.

Powder Bath

Small bathrooms are the perfect place to take risks. Here, one can easily get inspired by wallpapers, minimalist vibes, eclectic materials, and unexpected elements. “This is one of my favorite spaces to get really creative!” says McKenzie. “It’s often overlooked in design, but it’s actually one of the most important rooms in the house. This wallpaper made this small space come alive.”

If you’re into taking risks, that’s exactly what McKenzie did—in order to keep the room masculine yet fun. “We decided to go with a floating vanity to make the room feel a little larger instead of a vanity that goes all the way to the floor.”

A Designer’s Dream

McKenzie’s success in designing a home that both meets Jason’s expectations and satisfies the property’s local reputation is attributed to her adherence to marrying Kirk’s lifestyle with appropriately scaled and proportioned design, respecting the cultural and historic landscape of the neighborhood and, finally, accommodating his future generations.

McKenzie further believes that, as a designer, her job to find the true essence and style of Jason Kirk, elevate it, and make his home reflect that style. “My goal is to continue to have amazing clients, such as Jason, that inspire me to create something that makes him feel excited to come home.” To McKenzie, Jason’s new home in the beautiful Provenance neighborhood was an interior designer’s dream job. After discussing all of Jason’s needs and dreams, she was given free reign.
