On a slightly chilly evening in the early days of January 2016, a curly-haired country girl met a blonde city boy over queso and margaritas. After sparks flew that magical winter night, Andrew and Kara have enjoyed three years (and counting) of adventures in New Orleans together. Through Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, street car rides, oysters, brunches and countless orders of cheese fries, the two fell madly in love, culminating in a proposal last September, when Andrew got down on one knee in New Orleans’ picturesque Audubon Park and asked Kara to be his wife.

Kara Rae Bethard of Coushatta and Andrew Howard Alexander of Baton Rouge were united in marriage on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at half past six o’clock in the evening. The ceremony took place at First United Methodist Church in Coushatta, LA. Reverends Whitney Alexander and Ben Cunningham officiated the ceremony with help from Reverend Curtis Carroll.

Kara is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edgerton Bethard. Andrew is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Martin Whitney Alexander and the grandson of Mrs. Howard McCarty. Music for the ceremony was provided by Four Seasons String Quartet. Billy Heroman’s provided the floral décor for the ceremony and reception, and the wedding cakes were designed, baked, and decorated by Sweetie Cakes. Photos were taken by Collin Richie Photography, and events were captured by Wildfire Cinematography.

A reception followed at the Bethard family home in Coushatta. As guests entered the extensive outdoor tent provided by Pelican Tents and Events, they were greeted by a champagne skirt presentation from Frenchmen Street Productions. The tent was adorned with beautiful chandeliers and a custom dance floor featuring the couple’s signature magnolia. The lavish floral arrangements comprised of magnolias complimented by blue delphiniums and white ranunculus were placed in unique blue and white oriental pots and vases. The evening was captured by live painter Amelia Vidrine. Entertainment for the reception was provided by Five Star Funk Lounge band. Heirloom Cuisine provided the food, and Southern Fork served the spirits.

The evening concluded with extravagant fireworks followed by a traditional New Orleans second line led by Andrew and Kara, who held custom umbrellas, while guests waved custom white napkins adorned with the couple’s signature magnolia. Andrew and Kara exited the reception by boat onto Grand Bayou Reservoir. The couple will reside in New Orleans following their honeymoon in Italy.
