Price: $575* for 1.5 hours

It’s no secret — celebrities drive nice cars. From Kim Kardashian to David Beckham, Cher and Jay-Z, the brand Bentley reigns supreme. While the Continental style is most popular, it’s the vintage variety that has celebs dropping big dollars on their wheels. In fact, it’s reported that fashion designer Ralph Lauren spent a cool $5 million on a 1929 Birkin Blower Bentley.

While spending that much cash might not be attainable for you, you can boast a rental Bentley for the evening. And really, it’s all about the Instagram post, right? This month’s featured luxury item is a 1957 Bentley S1 series with an estimated worth of $60-100K.

Coming in at $575 for a 90-minute rental (that’s nearly $7 a minute!) is a classic car that exudes sophistication. This particular automobile was custom built for U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, John Hay “Jock” Whitney in 1957. Whitney was the founder of J.H. Whitney & Company, the oldest venture capital firm in the U.S. Whitney, who came from money, fell into even more after the death of his father when he inherited a trust fund of $20 million (approximately $280 million in today’s currency), and later inherited four times that amount from his mother. He used this money to invest in other companies, including Spencer Chemical and Florida Foods Corporation, later known as Minute Maid.

His car, now owned by Shreveport Limousine, was produced by Bentley Motors Limited from 1955 to 1959. Under ownership of Rolls-Royce at the time, the S1’s name was derived from the company’s redesign of its standard production car after World War II, the Silver Cloud. Each was its maker’s last standard production car with an independent chassis.

A little about the company: Bentley was founded in 1919 and was acquired by Rolls-Royce Limited in 1931. Prior to the 1930s, the two were major competitors. The first Rolls-Royce produced Bentley was the 3.5 L in 1933. The company would remain this way until 1998 when The Volkswagen Group purchased the British luxury car brand.

This specific car, including two other vintage automobiles, are available through Shreveport Limousine, 1200 Marshall St. in Shreveport.
