Growing up, Stephen Goudeau never dreamed of being a fashion designer. He was creative as a child and people often thought he was strange because of his imagination. He was passionate about film and would write stories and scripts as often as he could. He wanted to become a director and screenplay writer for thriller films. While he was dreaming up movies, his parents were always dressed to the nines. They were very stylish and influenced Goudeau to develop his own sense of style which was very fashion forward.
“I found people asking me what they should where more regularly as I got older,” said Goudeau. “Someone suggested to me that I should start a clothing line so I started creating and that’s where my passion grew.”
Goudeau was accepted into the New York Fashion Institute upon graduating from Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, but his parents insisted that he pursue a more “promising” career. He decided to study communications and doesn’t regret it.
Goudeau’s fashion brand, Stephen Goudeau, specializes in custom pieces. His team sits down with a client for a consultation to discuss their vision, then see the whole process through until the client’s dream piece is brought to life. From couture jumpsuits to amazing wedding gowns, Goudeau can create a masterpiece that is sure to turn heads.
“My biggest challenge came when I was in a transition period of my life,” said Goudeau. “My team wanted me to transition my brand (then called Studio 6th Sense) to my name, Stephen Goudeau. I never wanted to be the face of my brand because I didn’t know how the fashion world would accept a black male designer. I struggled for over two years to make the decision but I finally trusted my gut and agreed. It was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.”
From outfitting celebrities for the red carpet to showing in New York Fashion Week, Goudeau has gone further than he could have ever dreamed and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.
