Tyrique Taylor was destined to be in music.
Growing up in a musical household, Taylor, a 19-year-old senior at Woodlawn Leadership Academy, was exposed to DJing at an early age through his father. A close friend of local rapper and DJ Bay Bay, Taylor credits his father and Bay Bay for getting him into the music scene. It was in the eighth grade that he thought he’d take a stab at actually trying it himself.
“I used to go to the skating rink and they’d have bashes and birthday parties,” he said. “I’d just sit and watch the DJs work. They had guest DJs one night and I thought I’d give it a try. They said I did a great job, so I started taking myself seriously.”
Known as DJ Bighead, Taylor and his partner, DJ Stacks, are co-owners of I-Party Entertainment.
“I want to make it,” he said. “I want be like DJ Khalid. I want to put Louisiana on the map, but I want to go to another state. I’m never going to stay in one place — I want to travel.”
Before Taylor takes flight, he plans to pursue music even further at Louisiana Tech University or Grambling State University.
