The role of Mary Poppins may have been reprised by Emily Blunt, but locally there’s another actress who’s taking on the original.
“I’ve always loved being in the spotlight,” said Colleen Andrews, senior at North DeSoto High School and star of her school’s production of Mary Poppins. As a member of her church, she said she’s been a part of the acting and singing world for as long as she can remember.
“I love people and artistically, producing something for their enjoyment,” she said.
The 18-year-old is in the final leg of prepping for her debut as the practically perfect nanny and while this may be her last production in high school, she hopes to continue through college. She plans to attend Louisiana State University in Shreveport for secondary education.
“I would love to get involved with Shreveport Little Theatre or Stage Center,” she said. “My dream role is Elphaba in Wicked, or even Glenda.”
Colleen said she also loves the behind the scenes aspect of theatre, including building sets and painting. She is an active member of volunteer group Red Coats and a faith-based group, First Priority, at her high school.
