SB: Let’s start with your background. Tell us about yourself and how you decided to become an interior designer.
Becky:My family is my joy! Married for 26 years with 3 sweet kids, I actually have a BA degree in Elementary Education…and after teaching for 14 years, I began working from home. My attention turned to designing and decorating our home as a hobby. I started my blog in 2010 to document all of our home projects.
SB: When did you first start tackling decorating projects for your own home? And what was the first major project you accomplished?
Becky:In 2009, we took a shopping trip to Canton Trade Days. We purchased our chippy white island and I knew then I wanted to create the farmhouse style in our home. I sketched out a headboard design and my husband built it from reclaimed wood.
SB: What decorating project has been your favorite so far?
Becky:My favorite decorating project is our kitchen. In 2012, we had custom cabinets, butcher-block countertops, and a farm sink put in. My husband built a shiplap vent hood and added a vintage wood door.
SB: What inspires your ideas for your Louisiana Lifestyle blog, Becky’s Farmhouse?
Becky:I’m inspired by making our home welcoming and cozy. Whether that’s through a room refresh, gardening, or making a batch of homemade cookies…I love sharing all these things with my readers.
SB: How did you get your start as an influencer on social media?
Becky:In 2014, I began my Instagram account to share our Barn Sale we hosted and hobby farm life. Surprisingly, my Instagram account grew quickly and evolved into sharing my passion for home decor. Then in 2017, companies began reaching out to me for partnerships and collaborations. Now, I’m honored to work with large brands such as Better Homes & Gardens and Stearns & Foster.
SB: What steps did you take to gain sponsors for your ideas?
Becky:If I have an upcoming project, on occasion I will email a brand to see if they would be interested in partnering with me. I am also a member of several Influencer platforms that assist in finding campaigns that would be a good fit for me to be a part of.
SB: How many followers do you have? What is the age group of decorators most interested in your work?
Becky:At this time, I have 92.7 K Instagram followers…most of which are in the range of 30-50 years of age.
SB: How many hours a day do you work to maintain your social media sites?
Becky:Most weekdays I spend anywhere from 2 to 8 hours working on content for my sites. I share most content through Instagram stories and my blog. It’s a joy for me to interact with my audience and readers. It’s important for me to answer their questions and respond to comments.
SB: Tell us about a typical day working as an interior decorator.
Becky:My favorite days are the ones where I can be creative…when I have a specific project or room to transform. This may entail painting, organizing, styling, shopping for products, or a photo-shoot.
SB: What are your secrets for starting a decorating project for one of your typical clients?
Becky: When working with a brand, I try to begin with a blank slate…so, I clear out the space or room. Then I focus on highlighting the products and making them fit seamlessly into my home and style.
SB: What do you enjoy most about “country living” home decor?
Becky:My family enjoys our country living home because it is casual and cozy. Our home is welcoming and has a vintage charm that we love. We support local shops to add pieces to create our vintage country style.
SB: What is your favorite season for decorating and why?
Becky: I truly love decorating for each season…however, spring is my all time favorite! After a long winter, I look forward to the garden coming back to life. I love bringing in fresh flower bouquets and branches.
SB: Where can our readers find your design ideas?
Becky:Your readers can find my design ideas on Instagram @becky.cunningham.home and my blog is Beckysfarmhouse.com. I’m also on Facebook @ Becky Cunningham Home.
