[dropcap]M[/dropcap]elissa L. Lynn, M.D. received her Doctor of Medicine from the LSU School of Medicine in 1989. She completed an internal medicine residency in 1992 and a nephrology fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 1994. She then completed a second fellowship in 1996 in transplant nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. From 1996 to 2001, she was an assistant professor in the department of surgery at LSU Health Shreveport as the transplant nephrologist.
She is on the medical staff at Willis-Knighton Medical Center at all four locations, Christus Schumpert, Highland, LifeCare Hospitals, Promise Hospital, Cornerstone Hospital and is a consultant at Specialists Hospital.
Dr. Lynn’s unique style of patient care is not just limited to nephrology. Her patients know they can trust her to take the time to listen to all their problems and help them find a solution. Her patient care is a team approach. She is blessed to have Ramona, Chase, Connie and Sonya as her team partners. Together, they care for their patients with the best they have to give.

Rene Piazza and her husband, Benny, say Dr. Melissa Lynn is the best in the business. They know first-hand having been patients of hers for many years.
Rene’s mother was wheelchair bound and in kidney failure when she was first introduced to Dr. Lynn.
“Dr. Lynn blew me away with her kindness and patience with her (mom) being old,” Rene said. “She couldn’t be any sweeter. It was kind of like we had this immediate draw to her. I typed this letter and mailed it to her office thanking her for being the kind of person she was. From that point on we had a friend relationship. She mailed me back a card when mom passed and wrote me a beautiful letter. She is so down to earth.”
Later something happened with Benny’s health and Rene again contacted Dr. Lynn, knowing he would need to be referred by another doctor.
“She called me and talked to me to find out what was going on and took him in as a new patient five years ago,” Rene said. “You just couldn’t ask for a sweeter doctor. Her office staff is so kind and going to the office is like going to visit a friend. They make you feel warm and welcome. It is a very compassionate and loving place.”
Dr. Lynn’s staff agrees that their boss is an inspiration in the office.Sonya Fitspatrick, office manager, said “There is nothing more rewarding in life than helping people and the appreciation that they show you. Dr. Lynn has taught me to always embrace the patient, because sometimes they just need a shoulder to cry on. Our patients are family and we always want them to feel welcome when they come to the office. My primary goal is to make sure that the patient is well taken care of and happy.” Ramona Overton added, “It is such an honor to work with such a loving and caring person! I’m always so inspired by her relationships see has with our patients. Her kindness and knowledge does not go unnoticed. I love her so dearly.” Chase White said about Dr. Lynn, “I am the newest addition to the practice as a nurse practitioner. I am really enjoying learning nephrology and getting to know and work with these great ladies. It is an honor to be a part of the organization.”
Dr. Lynn is a diplomat in the American Board of Internal Medicine, nephrology subspecialty, a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Nephrology, Renal Physicians of America and Louisiana and Shreveport Medical Societies.
Dr. Lynn attributes her successful practice to excellent training and clinical experience, her partners who are all equally outstanding in the field of nephrology, and to her dedicated, highly skilled and supportive staff who share her philosophy of giving their patients respect, kindness and encouragement, as well as the best possible medical care. She actively supports the Symphony Guild, Goodwill Industries, multiple humane societies, and her childhood church.

Dr. Lynn loves animals and rescues homeless dogs and cats. Her chocolate Lab, Coco, is a frequent and welcome visitor to the LTAC’s.

When she’s not in Shreveport, Dr. Lynn is at home in Wyoming photographing the wonders of the West.
