The Shreveport-Bossier City area will be blessed with festivals and entertaining cultural events all during the month of May. A few of the concerts include Dustin Lynch, REO Speedwagon, and Little Big Town. Do you have plans for Cinco de Mayo? Feel like dressing up for all things Kentucky Derby at Shreveport Derby Day? May 2

  • Jam on the Red Concert Series, 5:30 – 9 p.m., Shreveport Aquarium’s courtyard
  • Jeter Jones and The Perfect Blend Band, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m., Celebrity Lounge at Eldorado Casino, Shreveport. Jeter Jones is a native of Mansfield, LA and is a decorated combat veteran with 20 years of service. The band includes Julius Walton, Brandon Campell, Ricco Atkins, Devante Youngblood and JaMarcus Brown. Come boogie with the best of them at Celebrity Lounge in Eldorado Casino. Adult admission is free.

May 3

  • The Pursuit with Panel Discussion, 5:30 – 7 p.m., Robinson Film Center, Shreveport
  • LSUS Alumni CapitalOne Pilots Golf Classic, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Golf Club at Stonebridge, Bossier City
  • Taco Wars II, 5 – 9 p.m., LSUS, Shreveport. It’s that time again … for a taco tussle! On the evening of May 3, local taquerias will sell tacos and compete for the coveted Golden Taco award as chosen by a panel of taco experts. Come down and taste tacos and salsa from a variety of Latin restaurants and food vendors from across northwest Louisiana. Each attendee will get tokens to vote on their favorite from each vendor using ‘Taco Tickets.’ Taquerias keep 100 percent of the revenue from tacos sold at their tent. Your taco purchases directly support these amazing local businesses.

  • Shreve Memorial Library Children’s Book Festival, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., LSUS, Shreveport
  • Gusher Days Festival, 10 a.m. –  4 p.m., Earl G. Williamson Park, Oil City, La.
  • The Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration, 12 p.m., Windrush Park at Provenance, Shreveport
  • Kegs and Corks Craft Beer and Wine Festival, 2 – 9 p.m., Flying Heart Brewing & Pub, Bossier City. Kegs and Corks Craft Beer and Wine Festival is presented by Flying Heart Brewing & Pub. Taking place in the East Bank Plaza in Bossier City, this is the first craft beer and wine festival to be held in the newly renovated area. Breweries and wineries will provide samples to participants along with local eateries. Area homebrewers will also provide their original brews. Muscal entertainment will take place throughout the day.

  • Shreveport Derby Day, 2 – 6 p.m., R.W. Norton Art Gallery. The first party to take place on the lawn of R.W. Norton Art Gallery in its 50-year history, Shreveport Derby Day is a posh and vibrant celebration of the Kentucky Derby. Crowds of up to 1,000 people from over 15 states descend upon the stately grounds to witness one of the world’s most treasured races, along with raffles, lawn games, amazing food, bottomless spirits, best-dressed contests and much, much more. Come celebrate the running of the Kentucky Derby on the beautiful lawn at R.W. Norton Art Gallery. 

May 5

  • The Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration, 6 p.m., Windrush Park at Provenance, Shreveport. >El Cabo Verde and the Provenance Community are back with the third annual Cinco De Mayo Celebration at Windrush Park. Admission is free at this family-friendly two-day festival. There will be Folklorico dancers, piñatas, games, Mercado food, margaritas and a mariachi band. Live music starts at 4 p.m.

  • The 47th Annual Bonsai Show, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Bossier Arts Council
  • Shreveport Stuffed Shrimp Festival, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Eleven Events. The inaugural Shreveport Stuffed Shrimp Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Eleven Events in Shreveport. The festival is a free, family-friendly event celebrating the unique style of stuffed shrimp that was created and popularized in Shreveport as well as the cultural and historical significance of this beloved regional specialty. The festival will include live music entertainment, cooking demonstrations, historical presentations, food trucks, vendors, arts and crafts and a kid-friendly play area with bounce houses and more.

  • Shayliff, 4 – 7 p.m., Heart Gates Vineyard, Shreveport
  • Chonda Pierce, 7 – 9:30 p.m., Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. Billboard Magazine dubbed her, has made audiences laugh for more than two decades with her winning combination of fierce wit and Southern charm. A stand-up comedian, television hostess, author and actress, Pierce has channeled her life experiences into positivity, bringing laughter to audiences around the country. As the RIAA’s best-selling female comedian of all time, her hilarious take on life is easily relatable as she publicly opens up to her listeners about times of darkness and depression in her own life, drawing humor and good from every situation.
  • Little Big Town, 8 p.m., The Riverdome at Horseshoe Casino, Bossier City. Since being founded in 1998, the Grammy Award-winning country music group has released massive hits like Bring It On Home, Little White Church, Pontoon, Tornado, Girl Crush, Better Man and more.

May 18

  • Bossier City Farmers Market, 9 a.m. –  1 p.m., Pierre Bossier Mall
  • Barksdale Air Force Base Airshow, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Barksdale Air Force Base. Get ready for the 2019 Defenders of Liberty Airshow at Barksdale Air Force Base. This annual endeavor is a free two-day event drawing more than 100,000 people (locals and visitors) to the area. This year’s show features the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, aerobatic performers, a B-52 flyover and much, much more.
  • Rainbow of Hope, 8 p.m. – 2 a.m., Central Station, Shreveport. Join in the fun for a night to remember when Central Station and The Korner Lounge present Rainbow of Hope benefiting The Philadelphia Center and HOPE Connections. Entertainment includes burlesque shows, pole dancers, hula hoopers, illusionists and more. Sponsorship tickets are $50.

  • Mudbug Madness, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., Festival Plaza, Shreveport. Nationally recognized as one of the South’s top festivals, the 36th annual Mudbug Madness Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. May 24-26 in downtown Shreveport’s Festival Plaza. Held annually on Memorial Day weekend, the festival easily brings in more than 55,000 daily patrons. Come celebrate Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage of good food, non-stop live Cajun and zydeco music, activities for children and delicious, mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Festival headliners for 2019 include Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band (May 26, 6:30 p.m.), Shinyribs (May 26, 9 p.m.), Flow Tribe (May 24, 9 p.m.), Amanda Shaw (May 24, 6:30 p.m.), The Molly Ringwalds (May 25, 9:30 p.m.) and more.
