What began as a fundraising luncheon made up of 30 – 40 ladies has grown into a community event that often will burst at the seams with more than 1500 people in attendance. This is an event that the seniors of Loyola College Prep look forward to, the celebration of the seniors in the form of a fabulous style show complete with models and choreographed group numbers.  The 67th Annual Style Show with the theme of “Snoopy Takes a Staycation – Born on the Bayou,” will take place on November 13, 2019, at the Shreveport Convention Center.

Ashley Elston, Marci Moore, and Christy Poole are leading the dedicated parents who are working diligently behind the scenes this year to make the style show happen. The event is so big all three are serving as this year’s Style Show Chairs. Last year when the Loyola College Prep planning committee members were working together on style show decorations and discussing possibilities for future themes, Christy Poole asked, “Why does Snoopy always go somewhere? Why can’t he have a “staycation?” The ladies’ ideas for the proposed “staycation” theme just started flowing from there. The style show chairs began researching previous themes used to celebrate the Loyola College Prep seniors and found out that Snoopy had celebrated Mardi Gras, but he had never traveled the state from north to south. Very soon, Snoopy’s staycation idea took hold, and the planners came up with the 67th Annual Style Show theme: “Snoopy Takes a Staycation – Born on the Bayou.” “Our state is so rich in culture, food, entertainment, sights, and sounds that it has been fun and easy to plan for this year,” Ashley Elston explains.

Nature, industry, farming, oil, gas, and food of the Bayou State are incorporated in this year’s theme. Decorations for the style show include many of the symbols inspired by the great state of Louisiana – cypress trees covered in moss, Snoopy fishing on the Bayou, oil derricks, tractors, cotton, hot sauce and, of course, glitter.  Lots and lots of glitter. Volunteers are faced with an incredible task of breathing life into decorations that represent our great state while also competing with past themes of the style show. The Loyola College Prep Style Show patrons have always been transported to various locations through the use of creative and extensive themed decorations, and this year’s style show is sure to keep the tradition alive as well as provide bragging rights for years to come.

The Style Show will include many great songs about Louisiana written by or sung by Louisiana artists. From Fats Domino to Britney Spears, with music genres including country, rock, zydeco, jazz, R&B, and pop, the planners have the music covered. Everyone will be tapping their toes to the music this year. The 116 seniors involved in the style show have also learned several dance routines from a famous Shreveport dancer and choreographer, Elizabeth Ardoin, now a local dance instructor whose choreography will be showcased at this year’s style show.

The food will also be incorporated into the theme. In the past, the student’s mothers use to prepare the food – Turkey a la Jesuit was often on the menu; however, now the event is a catered affair. This year Shaver’s, with Bonnie Jean’s Pralines providing dessert, will turn the affair into a true Louisiana cuisine experience.  “This really is an event that everyone looks forward to and wants to help with,” said Amy Watkins.
