“You never know when, you never know where — Saxman may pop up anywhere!”

Gabriel Johnson, otherwise known as “Saxman,” is a true Shreveport-Bossier City treasure. You may have seen him around the city playing requested tunes or via Facebook Live. He’s become known online for his “Sax-O-Grams.”

“Occasions can range from weddings, proposals, anniversaries and graduations to happy birthdays, ‘I’m sorry,’ or a simple ‘just because,’” he said. “It all depends on the customer.”

Taking the idea of a singing telegram and melding it with social media, Johnson has created something special for this area. The 33-year-old was first introduced to the saxophone while in band at Evangel Christian Academy and has been playing “Sax-O-Grams” for over 15 years. It’s just been in the last four years he’s gone online with them — and people are responding. He said he’s received requests from people all over the U.S. to travel to them.

“If you’ve ever tuned in to one of my (Facebook) Live videos, you’ll see how people are left with the emotions of overwhelming joy and tears,” he said. “I not only engage with the client’s loved one but also with the audience that has tuned in on Facebook.”

Giving the gift of something so intimate is special to Johnson. He said he enjoys developing a memory for people that will make them smile and feel loved.

Recipients not only can expect to be serenaded, but depending on the event, can receive balloons, flowers, t-shirts or other gifts. Cost varies depending on location, travel expenses and number of songs (as well as any additional items).
