2020 TOP ATTORNEYS:
JOHN D. & ERIC G. JOHNSON LAW FIRM
Eric G. Johnson is a criminal defense attorney who has been in the business for a quarter century. “My father is an attorney and my mother worked with him as his secretary, and they inspired me to enter the legal profession,” said Johnson, a Minden native who completed both his undergraduate and graduate work at LSU. “I enjoy helping individuals and families who are confronted with criminal charges in state or federal courts.”
When it comes to serving clients, Johnson takes a team approach. In addition to the two excellent lawyers who practice with him, Rachel Bays and Natalie Howell, he employs four outstanding legal assistants: Sherrie Woods, Suzanne Stutsman, Jenny Beene and Jackie Sutis.
The firm was established by his father, John D. Johnson, in 1980. He still comes to the office every day to handle succession matters for clients.
“My dad told me to find an area of law I enjoyed and dedicate myself to it,” Johnson said. “For me, that was defending criminal cases.” He finds that rewarding, and he plans to stick with that area of law for as long as possible.
“When potential clients come to our firm, they are most often at a very low point in their life,” said Johnson. “Our desire is to help them as best we can in dealing with the situation, they find themselves in.”
Johnson’s drive — and outgoing personality — has led him to success. He strives to achieve the very best results for each client he represents.
“Last year, we freed two individuals from mandatory life without benefit of probation or parole,” he said. “We were thus able to return two individuals to their families. Of all the work we did last year on behalf of clients, helping these two individuals was perhaps the most rewarding to us.”
Johnson is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and he routinely attends seminars across the country in order to become better at his job. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his daughter and traveling with her to locations both foreign and domestic.
