Dhu Thompson, along with the staff of the Law Offices of J. Dhu Thompson, APLC, work hard and use the latest advances in trial practice techniques to litigate their clients’ legal interests. Mr. Thompson has a diverse law practice and trial experience in criminal defense, family law, business law, nursing home negligence, and catastrophic personal injury cases. He has conducted over 100 jurytrials in his career, including civil and criminal trials. He has further tried hundreds of custody actions. The diversity of his legal experience allows him to litigate a variety of legal matters throughout Louisiana in Federal, State, and Municipal Courts. Recently, he was appointed Hearing Officer Judge for the 5th Judicial District Court, where he presides and makes recommendations for child support, protective orders, custody, spousal support and community property cases. This position complements his current trial practice, allowing him to view cases from a Court’s perspective which helps him effectively advocate for his current clients.

The firm recently expanded with a second office in Richland Parish to service the growing clientele base throughout North Louisiana. Whether successfully representing a dentist charged with violating Medicaid law, helping clients gain custody of their children, obtaining six and seven figure settlements or trial judgments in personal injury/medical negligence cases, trying a complex 18-wheeler collision case, or arguing cases on appeal, Mr. Thompson and his law office professionals have the trial court and appellate court experience to guide cases to successful conclusion. J. Dhu Thompson

Mr. Thompson graduated from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduation, Mr. Thompson worked for the Louisiana Department of Insurance. He then joined the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney, becoming an original member of the Special Homicide Offender Targeting Unit. From 2004 through 2015, Mr. Thompson was an assistant district attorney in the Caddo

Parish District Attorney’s Office. He successfully tried hundreds of criminal cases, such as armed robbery, DWI and murder. As a special assistant district attorney for homicide and violent offender prosecutions, Mr. Thompson successfully prosecuted many high-profile criminals, including Brian Horn, who was convicted of the heinous murder of young Justin Bloxom, and Michael Kevin Hailey, whose case and prosecution were portrayed in the book Among Murderers and Madness.

Mr. Thompson is also a lecturer at police academies, colleges, and local civic organizations on topics of current law and liability. He is a member of the Louisiana State and Shreveport Bar Associations, Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, American and Louisiana Association for Justice, National and Louisiana Association for Criminal Defense, and North Shreveport Business Association. Mr. Thompson and his family reside locally and are members of First United Methodist Church.
