SB Weddings: Alex Rhodes & Chad Souter
Imagine walking into a wedding reception and you’re greeted by an 8-tier wedding cake standing at over four feet tall. Enchanted, right? That’s exactly the impression Alex Rhodes and Chad Souter wanted to give when the two were married June 2, 2018 at the home of Alex’s parents. Their reception was held at the Petroleum Club in Shreveport where an abundance of fresh flowers and their pastel wedding cake by Frosted Art took center stage.
The signature bridal cake was made of silver pound cake with Italian buttercream and white chocolate. It featured tiers of lemon lavender and decadent butter cake with bourbon caramel. Each tier was a different shade of soft pastel and was outlined in gilded filigree—a nod to the bride’s lace on her Berta dress.
With all their favorites in mind, the couple provided a variety of seafood at their reception including a medley of sushi, shrimp, snow crab, oyster, lobster and scallops. Desserts included an entire dessert station with mini crème brulee tarts, banana pudding, key lime mousse, chocolate truffles, cheesecake cups and chocolate bailey tarts.
For the reception, Alex wanted to take a page from The Secret Garden with bright, romantic flowers including an arrangement spelling out the word “LOVE.” With the help of Donna Brian, her wedding coordinator/designer and Dr. Delphinium Designs serving as her florist, Alex was able to transform the Petroleum Club with an oasis of roses, peonies, delphinium and other bright blooms lit with candles and twinkling lights. She even had a 360-square foot flower installation hang from the ceiling.
Alex is the daughter of the late Mr. Sidney and Mrs. Peggy Rhodes, of Shreveport; Chad is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Souter, of Benton. Alex’s sister, Rachael Rhodes, served as Maid of Honor, and Matron of Honor was Mary Sundborg. Bridesmaids included Jilly Souter, Amanda Johnson, Trena Edwards and Sarah Rosenblum. The bride’s goddaughter, Freya Sundborg, served as flower girl. Dustin Thomason served as Best Man, and groomsmen included Coy Cockrell, Andrew Barringer, Chris Barringer, Chris Shemas and Josh Inscore.
Alex is a graduate of Loyola College Prep and attended the University of Mississippi. Chad is a graduate of Magnolia High School and graduated from Louisiana Tech University. The two honeymooned in Hawaii and now call Benton home.
