2015 JSL Kitchen Tour Locations
Terry and Mary Ann Elston
6800 Querbes Drive
Some might consider the Elstons’ home a masterpiece of Terry M. Elston Builder and Kitchen & Bath Cottage. The Elstons collaborated with architect Ben Patterson on the design of their South-Louisiana-style home that was completed in June of 2015. The exterior of the home features a slate roof and limewashed brick as well as landscaping designed and installed by Hoogland’s Landscape. Terry and Mary Ann worked with Kori Shurley on the design, April Sharlow on the cabinetry, and Mary Patten of Kitchen & Bath Cottage on the tile. Wood-Mode Custom Cabinetry created the cabinetry. Along the perimeters, there is inset construction with a vintage painted finish. The island is a frameless construction finished with stained walnut. The countertops are classic stone supplied by Louisiana Stone and a Cristallo & Victoria Falls Quartzite. The antique chestnut flooring with a tung oil finish adds to the classic look of the room. Kitchen & Bath Cottage sourced the under-counter and over-counter lighting, and the impressive Curry & Co. fixture over the island was provided by House of Carpets and Lighting. Special features include a Wolf in-counter steamer, Francois limestone hood, Walker Zanger mosaic tile behind the range, automatic trash drawer, refrigerator panel with antique mirror glass, and antique doors in butler’s pantry. The home also features a large wrap-around porch complete with an outdoor kitchen that is furnished with both Evo and Wolf grills, Phantom screens, icemaker and refrigerator drawers. The magnificent 350-square-foot kitchen features views of their beautiful pool designed by Steve Evans of Waterscapes and opens into their living area.
Pierremont Place Retreat
6121 Fern Ave, #85
After living in the same home for 40 years, the homeowners decided to create a stylish retreat in Pierremont Place. Alison McKenzie of Medina Interiors designed the entire house, and the result is not only exceptionally stylish, but also highly functional. McKenzie spent many hours designing the kitchen with the homeowners before construction ever began, and the result is visually stunning. The homeowners love to cook and bake, so a kitchen with functionality, as well as style was an important part of the house. The overall look and feel of the kitchen are classic, luxurious and timeless. The cabinetry was created by Custom Bilt and McKenzie added her own aesthetic by collaborating with them every step of the way. This kitchen includes a place for everything, including a specific cabinet for the mixer that lifts up and retracts back down so that there’s no need to move the heavy appliance. The cabinets are inset construction with custom designed doors and five-piece drawer fronts made of maple. The homeowners wanted color in the kitchen, so they selected a beautiful gray for the cabinets that creates a warm, inviting look. The homeowners and Alison worked together to select an exquisite slab of Calcutta gold marble for the counters. For the island, they went with a unique piece of quartzite that has more durability for the prep space. One of the show-stopping elements of the kitchen that embraces the homeowner’s personality is the custom hand-painted terracotta tile backsplash from Tabarka. They finished the kitchen with a classic wood floor in keeping with a timeless look.
Bridget and Donald Worley – The Haven
273 Captain HM Shreve
Designed by Tammi White of Whitespace Interiors and built by Matt Locke of Locke Homes, the newly-constructed home of Bridget and Donald Worley was actually inspired by the 2014 Junior League Kitchen Tour. Bridget attended last year’s Kitchen Tour hoping to gain some ideas for her own home renovation, and at that time, she hadn’t yet even considered including her own kitchen in the remodeling plans for her home. After visiting all 10 homes on the tour, the Worleys had so many new ideas for their own renovation that they decided it might be time to build a new home. They found the perfect waterfront property overlooking the Red River in The Haven. The kitchen features custom cabinetry by Unlimited Cabinets painted with a Southwest marshmallow white finish. The island base is painted with a pewter tankard finish, which adds a striking contrast. The perimeter countertops are Templeton Cambria quartz, and the island is a beautiful Calcutta quartzite from Waters Specialty Countertops. The hardwood floors throughout the house are from Henson’s Carpet One, which also supplied the white subway tile backsplash in the kitchen. Denee Locke of Closets in Order designed all the closets and storage in the home, including the expansive pantry. House of Carpets was the source for the kitchen lighting, including the chrome pendants over the island. Other features from Kitchen & Bath Cottage include a Wolf range as well as a Subzero refrigerator, freezer, and wine cooler located in the butler’s pantry.
Dr. Steven and Mona Conrad
406 Regency Boulevard
This beautiful home is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in Sherwood Forrest Estates, located just off Norris Ferry Road in South Shreveport. Dr. Steven Conrad and his wife, Mona, have lived in the home since it was built in 1991 and completed the renovation of the kitchen and living area, as well as the addition of an outdoor living space, in 2011 and 2014, respectively. The outdoor living area and atrium adjacent to the kitchen, dining room, and living room bring inside a touch of the outdoors and provide a perfect atmosphere for entertaining friends and family. Designed by Amanda Pallotta (Houston) and brought to life by Marty Park of WoodShapers, LLC, this kitchen features stunning Spectrus granite countertops and an eye-catching wood-welded maple butcher block island. Amanda designed a custom buffet for the dining room that compliments the kitchen island and ties the two spaces together. Woodshapers constructed custom cabinets for the kitchen, and the homeowners selected cabinet doors from Doug Ashy Building of Breaux Bridge, La. The Piozzi Castello 18-inch porcelain tile floor and adobe ceramic tile backsplash and countertops in the kitchen and pantry were all provided by Mark Johnson of Natural Stone and Design. Others who collaborated on the project include Terry Mitts of Quality Paper Hanging and Painting, Kitchen Design Group (appliances) and Red River Supply (sinks and faucets).
Long Lake Home
1016 Bayberry Circle
This traditional Long Lake Home was built in 1998 but has undergone a number of renovations since the current homeowners moved into the house in 2009. Their most recent renovation included the main living area, kitchen, laundry room, and a media room constructed by Hoffman Construction and Design. The kitchen features gleaming quartzite countertops in pearl white from Natural Stone and Design. Some of the more striking features of the kitchen are the custom birch cabinets, the wire-brushed Canadian white pine island and pantry, and a large table, all designed by Carl Bretz of Custom-Bilt. The reclaimed heart of pine wood floors from Custom Bilt were installed and finished by Scott A. Burchard, LLC. Appliances were selected from Kitchen & Bath Cottage, and the faucets and sinks were selected from The Plumbing Warehouse LCR. Tile for the kitchen and laundry backsplashes, laundry room floor, and powder bath were selected from Kitchen & Bath Cottage and installed by Dixie Tile and Marble. They purchased the chandelier and sconce lighting from Medina Interiors. Custom railings to the media room were crafted by Patrick McClanahan, and hardware for the project was provided by Tommy’s Hardware. Attractive custom paint and wall finishes by Quality Paper Hanging and Painting round out the design of this renovation. This tranquil and functional space was created through a collaborative effort between designer Catherine Smith and the homeowners.
Buzz and Ashley Hancock
9875 Bayou Bend Drive
Buzz and Ashley Hancock’s beautiful new outdoor kitchen, designed by architect Chris Elberson and constructed by Salley Builders, is a striking addition to their traditional-style home located off of Leonard Road in South Shreveport. The Hancocks began construction on the outdoor kitchen in October 2014, completed the project in about six months, and have been enjoying attractive and functional new living space since. The magnificent beams are constructed from antique longleaf heart pine, and the ceiling features Canadian white pine with a wire-brushed finish. An impressive antler chandelier is situated above the kitchen, which features lennon granite countertops with a flat, polished edge and a leathered finish. Custom Bilt constructed cabinets to anchor the Wolf grill and refrigerator from Kitchen & Bath Cottage. Others involved with bringing the space to life were Guice Plumbing, Shawn Pendleton of Bossier Electric, Vintage Brick of Louisiana, Raymond Anderson (masonry), Johnny Johnson (paint), Terra Bella Landscape Design and Management, and LCR (faucet and sink).
212 Hollybrook Drive
The home of Luke Bratlie, built by Justin Sevier of Vintage Construction Group in 2014, is situated on a common area in the highly sought-after neighborhood of Provenance. The home offers a unique take on the modern kitchen, with On The 9ine Hardwood Floors from United Tile Company (color: McKinney), which offer a traditional twist on the modern design. The light fixture, which is a definite conversation starter, was selected at Southeastern Salvage and is situated over the gleaming quartz counter of the island. Luke changed the original design of the kitchen to include a single-level bar off the island. He also preferred the clean lines of the upper cabinets and chose to place the microwave in the lower cabinets, rather than over the cooktop. His preference for clean lines is also reflected by the choice of the backsplash tile, a white gloss subway tile, which was selected from United Tile Company. Luke purchased his sink and faucets from LCR and his appliances from Barrett Appliance and Morrison Supply. Designer Myron Griffing assisted the homeowner with the selection of furnishings and accents.
2100 Fairwoods Drive
Diane dreamed of a home that reminded her of her deep roots in north Louisiana and her love of New Orleans, where she spends time with her family. This magnificent custom home, built in 2015 by Wesley Thomas and designed by Bennett Sabatier (architect, Lafayette, La.), features a beautiful kitchen and hearth room rich with colors and textures. While there are many impressive finishes, Diane is especially fond of the ornate vent hood and custom cabinets designed by Custom Bilt. The homeowner collaborated with Brandy Canatella Thompson of Canatella Interiors to select paint colors, countertops, backsplash, cabinetry design, and elegant accents for the kitchen. Both the backsplash (Soci glass and porcelain mosaic) and the granite (Typhoon Bordeaux) were handpicked from Southern Stone. The kitchen features GE Monogram appliances and lighting from Barrett Appliance. The home also features a Sonos system, designed and installed by Dave Bushnell of Sound Minds Studios, and many other high-tech features that are housed in what the homeowner refers to as “Dave’s closet.”
Richard Jacobson and Brittney Anderson
1027 Lochinvar Dr.
Brittney and Richard worked with Vintage Construction Group over the course of seven months to build their modern yet classic home in St. Andrews. The home was built with entertaining in mind, as the kitchen is an open concept floor plan, and they included a fabulous outdoor kitchen, as well. The 375-square-foot kitchen features a sleek yet approachable style. Sheppard’s Countertops installed the three-centimeter Bianco Carrara marble countertops that were manufactured in Dallas by Levantina. The crescent reclaimed heart pine floors in Vintage Auburn from United Tile add a classic flair to the otherwise modern finishes in the kitchen. United Tile also completed the Interceramic Brites Ultra White backsplash tile. The cabinets were created by McDowell Custom Millwork and are painted in Sherwin Williams Snowbound. The pendant lights and lighting fixtures from Kenroy Home create a warm environment. Other features of the indoor kitchen include appliances from Elite Appliance in Dallas and a Summit wine cooler and sink from LCR. Richard and Brittney’s outdoor kitchen is an inviting and cozy space also equipped for entertaining. It features a Coyote grill from Elite Appliance and an expansive prep area with Giallo Ornamental granite, also from Sheppard’s Countertops.
Robin Lacour and Eric Blankenship
1032 Lochinvar Drive
Robin and Eric’s St. Andrews home was one of the first completed homes in the neighborhood, yet it exudes traditional style. Robin collaborated with Jan Doege to design the home, which was built by Steve Barrish of SR Homes. Their 475-square-foot kitchen complements the classic look that prevails throughout their home. The cabinetry, in a Carie Rodie finish, was created by Builders Custom Cabinet. The countertops are an exquisite Typhoon Bordeaux by Stone Design. Steve installed 12×24-foot Scabos Beige floors by Stone Design to complement the inviting space. The island lanterns from Restoration Hardware give off a warm glow that fills the kitchen. Special features include interior brick from Rachal Brick and Antique Pine ceiling beams from Custom Bilt. The appliances are Bosch and GE Monogram, both from Barrett Appliance.
